Description
We will cycle on the Peloponessos, the heartland of Greek history, combining great riding with natural beauty and ancient culture. We will start near Corinth and then cycle in a half loop across the northern part of the Peloponessos. Ancient sites at Corinth (where apostle Paul preached), Nemea (games before Olympia), Mycene (legendary castle of the great warrior Agamemnon), Epidauros (beautiful theatre) and Olympia (where it all started from 754 BC) will be visited. We'll also explore Nafplion (charming and attractive) and the fantastic Lousios valley (Demitsana and Stemnitsa, and the monasteries in the valley). The areas from the eastern coastline across the hills and into the woods are called Arcadia, where the mythological Pan and his troops would roam for pleasure and where we will cycle along streams and through valleys through an 'arcadic' landscape. The trip ends in Olympia, nothing can beat the ancient remnants of the first Olympic Games.
Bicycling
Moderate to hard riding, with hills particularly in the middle of the trip but also flatter days. Most days are between 35 to 40 miles of riding (one day is close to 50 miles with partly uphill riding but another day is almost all downhill riding). Other days are made short to enjoy history and culture.
