Description
This bicycle trip through midwestern Germany starts at the Saar River and then more or less the course of the Mosel River. This valley is characterized by thousands of vineyards growing on the slopes of steep hills but fortunately the bicycle trail follows the valley and there are no climbs worth mentioning. Sightseeing is great. The Romans already recognized the possibilities of this area and their headquarters were in Trier, the oldest town of Germany, which will be visited. Medieval castles like Burg Eltz, small communities with the half timbered houses, wine cellars and flower-decked promenades along the banks of the river and picture postcard towns like Cochem and Bernkastel are highlights along the way. We spend the nights in charming places like a hilltop hotel, or overlooking the scenic river and even in an ancient castle. Above all, we will discover that the best way to see this fantastic part of Germany is from a bicycle seat.
