Description
This is a full-service trip with lots of extras! The best way to see a country is from a bicycle, and the Alsace region is no exception. The main attractions of this region in northeast France are the vineyards, gourmet food and historical towns, many with remnants of a castle and medieval walls. On the first half of the trip you'll cycle along the Route du Vin with thousands of vineyards, excellent wineries and special Alsace cuisine. After fantastic Colmar the riding in the Rhine Valley (and outing into Germany for two days) and in the Munster Valley is easy. You'll find the vineyard trails, excellent food, picturesque villages with half-timbered homes and historic castles very rewarding. With lots of great Alsatian dishes, a fantastic special gourmet dinner, side visits to wine tasting and cheese making, this is an excellent combination of riding and enjoying.
Bicycling
Easy to moderate riding, average 30 to 35 miles per day. Some hills in beginning of trip in the heartland of Alsace, flat in Rhine and Munster valley.
